Choose floor plan software by the drawing you need to deliver and the changes you need to make before delivery. A room-layout sketch, an editable CAD handoff and a coordinated building model have different requirements. A tool that produces an attractive plan may still fail the file or revision task your project depends on.
Write down the required input, edit and output before comparing products. Then use the same small task in each candidate. The evaluation card below is a proposed method, not a benchmark or a report of tests performed on these tools.
Define the deliverable first
| Your next task | Evidence to request or test |
|---|---|
| Discuss room arrangement | Readable plan, controllable dimensions and a review method the client can use. |
| Revise a supplied scan | Reconstruction that you can inspect, correct and measure. |
| Produce detailed drawings | Required geometry, annotations, sheet control and legible output at the issue scale. |
| Continue in another CAD application | A supported export opened and checked in the recipient's software. |
| Coordinate a building model | The required model objects, information, schedules and exchange workflow. |
A file extension alone is not an acceptance test. Open the delivered file, check the units and inspect the content that matters. If the recipient needs editable objects, a matching image is insufficient.
Select tools for the relevant task
The following are documented reasons to include a tool in an evaluation. They are not rankings, performance findings or promises that an export will meet your requirements.
| Tool | Documented scope to investigate | A useful question for your trial |
|---|---|---|
| Synaps | Plan tracing, generation and editable drawing workflows. | Can I make my required architectural edit and deliver the checked result? |
| Planner 5D | Home-layout projects and paid plan recognition into editable 3D projects. | Do its editing controls and available output suit this room-planning task? |
| Maket | Floor-plan generation and an editor, with downloadable exports on paid plans. | Can I revise this generated residential arrangement and use the required export? |
| Homestyler | Cloud 3D floor planning and interior visualization. | Does the plan remain useful through furniture decisions and the required drawing output? |
| Snaptrude | Basic BIM and Revit export listed in its current plans. | Does the model and receiving Revit workflow preserve the information this project needs? |
| Revit | Model-based design, documentation and schedules with parametric relationships. | Does the deliverable require the model coordination this workflow provides? |

Editability is not unique to Synaps. Compare the edits and deliverables you need, and use a BIM environment when coordinated model information is a requirement. An early layout exercise does not prove that a tool can replace your full production workflow.
Test precision through a change
An input field accepting a dimension answers only one question. You also need to know what happens after you move a wall, change an opening or revise a room.
Create a small drawing with a known dimension and record the measurement endpoints. Enter the intended value, measure the result, then make one relevant change. Inspect wall connections, openings, nearby room boundaries and annotations. Finally, repeat the check in the exported file.
Synaps documents exact drawing inputs and measurement tools. Its geometry guidance also says dimensions and leaders need separate review after geometry moves. Include that review in your task time. A precise-looking annotation is not evidence that the underlying geometry is correct.
For detailed work, add a representative junction or symbol from your own practice. Check line weights, text, hatches and the sheet at the intended scale. Choose the detail that could cause a handoff problem, rather than a demonstration that every candidate can pass.
Use one common evaluation card
Consider a hypothetical small office alteration. The entrance and exterior walls stay fixed. You need to move one internal partition, revise the meeting-room access, check desks using their actual dimensions and send a drawing to a colleague. Supply the same permitted source and requirements to every tool.
| Test | Record | Acceptance decision |
|---|---|---|
| Import or reconstruction | Source format, missing content and correction work. | Can the team establish a usable starting drawing? |
| Dimensioned edit | Intended dimension, measured result and endpoints. | Does it meet the project's stated requirement? |
| Nearby geometry | Wall junctions, opening position and room boundaries after the edit. | Are needed corrections understood and completed? |
| Drawing detail | Text, dimensions, symbols and line weights at issue scale. | Can the recipient read the intended information? |
| Export | Format, units and differences in the receiving application. | Can the recipient perform the next task? |
| Device and review access | Actual device, browser or app, controls and permissions. | Can each participant perform their assigned work? |
| Effort and cost | Setup, processing, correction, output checks, plan and credits. | Is the whole workflow acceptable to the team? |
Mark each required row pass, fail or unresolved. Keep optional preferences separate. Do not average a failed mandatory export into a favorable overall score. If one tool needs a conversion step, include that work and check its result.
A browser or mobile app listing does not establish that every control or export works on your intended device. Run the task on that device before choosing the workflow. Include the collaborator who receives the output, not only the person drawing it.
Check the input and plan restrictions
In Synaps, the documented CAD import route is DXF; direct DWG is absent from the import menu. PDFs can follow different routes for reference images, vector extraction or tracing. Check the import guide against your actual source.
Plan access can change the comparison. Synaps lists DXF import/export under Pro and Studio. Planner 5D lists plan recognition under Premium and CAD export under Professional. Check the current Synaps and Planner 5D plans before testing. Free project access is not evidence of free completion of every task.
Make the decision from the record
Choose the candidate that passes the required task with correction work and costs the team accepts. Record why another tool was unsuitable for that particular job. Avoid general claims about its quality based on one exercise.
To evaluate Synaps as part of your architectural workflow, use the drafting and design guide to select a starting task. Keep the evaluation card alongside the drawing so the decision rests on what you checked.
