Welcome to this week's update! Create your account with email and password, enjoy faster feedback while commenting, use the new Eyedropper for styles, and benefit from DWG exports. Take advantage of more Synaps enhancements, including automatic floor-plan dimensions, building generation from descriptions, and sun studies in 3D.
New
Sign up and log in with email and password
Google is no longer the only way in, create and access your Synaps account using your email and password.
Previously, Synaps accounts were limited to Google sign-in, restricting access for those preferring or requiring email-based logins.
The sign-up and login pages now offer email/password authentication alongside Google. You can reset a forgotten password via email, and clear messages explain any login issues.
New
Export drawings as DWG
Export a selection, several papers or a whole building as one DWG file for CAD tools.
The DWG format is now an option in the Export dialog. When you export a selection, multiple pages, or an entire building, it saves as one DWG file. For building exports, each floor is stacked in the file as it appears in the expanded view, while your workspace remains unchanged. Drawings covered by the stacked floors will move down, maintaining their spacing, and those beside the building will stay in place.
Before saving, Synaps highlights the changes in CAD, like dimensions keeping their measurements without updating labels. Some elements may appear slightly different, but the file will remain a 2D drawing. Remember, returning to drawing mode will not save any changes, and in case of a conversion failure, no file will be created.
New
Synaps now opens at my.synaps.app
Synaps has moved to a new web address: my.synaps.app.
During beta, Synaps was hosted at beta.synaps.app. As we move out of beta, we’re adopting a new, permanent address.
All old links (including bookmarks and shared project URLs) to beta.synaps.app now forward to my.synaps.app. The classic version is available at legacy.synaps.app. You may need to log in again due to browser sign-in separation.
New
Automatic floor-plan dimensions
Add complete, linked dimension chains to your floor plans in one step.
Creating and maintaining dimensions by hand was time-consuming, any change to a wall could leave dimensions outdated.
Right-click selected walls, doors, windows, rooms, or floors and choose “Add dimensions.” Synaps draws dimension chains around every straight exterior wall, including overall lengths, wall thicknesses, rooms, and openings. Dimensions stay linked to the elements they measure and update automatically with changes. Undo removes them all at once, and re-running "Add dimensions" fills in any missing values.
Select the relevant walls or floor, right-click, and choose “Add dimensions.”
New
Sun study in the 3D view
Visualize sunlight and shadows over your building throughout the day.
Architects need to understand how buildings interact with natural light at different times.
The 3D view now includes a Sunlight option, displaying the sun’s path and allowing you to drag the sun to change the time of day. The ground ring acts as a compass, and you can turn north as needed.
Open your building in 3D and click “Sunlight” in the control row at the top.
New
Copy styles with the Eyedropper
Easily pick up and apply styles between elements using the new Eyedropper tool.
Copying styles previously required using Copy Properties and Paste Properties from the right-click menu, which wasn’t as fast or intuitive as users wanted.
The Eyedropper tool lets you click any element to pick its style, then Option-click (Alt-click on Windows) to apply it to other elements, even inside groups or imported SVGs. The tool remembers the style until you change tools. Eyedropper and Copy Properties now carry more settings, including room labels, door and window configurations, and wall build-ups.
Press “I” or click “Pick style from canvas” in the Appearance section. Click an element to pick up its style, then Option-click (Alt-click) other elements to apply it.
New
Generate a building from a description
Start your project by generating a building from a written brief.
A building in Synaps is a frame that holds its floors, walls, rooms and roof. You can draw one yourself or let Synaps generate it from a short brief.
The Building button now offers both “Add empty building” and “Generate a building.” Synaps can better interpret descriptions, correctly handling above and below-ground floors, window grids, and slab structures.
Click the Building button and choose “Generate a building,” then describe your desired building.
Improved
A tidier right-click menu
Frequently used actions are now easier to access, and less common commands are grouped for clarity.
The right-click menu was getting crowded, making it harder to find common actions.
Copy, Paste, and Duplicate are now at the top, with Arrange, Align, Distribute, Select Similar, Properties, and Flip grouped into submenus. Delete is separate at the bottom. The menu opens exactly where you click.
Improved
Faster, more reliable comments
Comments and replies appear instantly, and sending or deleting is more resilient.
Comments let you and your team leave notes pinned to a spot on the canvas. Each comment can have replies, @mentions, emoji and attached images.
Comments now appear as soon as you send them. Failed sends remain on the canvas with clear options to retry or discard. Attached images load reliably, even in older comments, and open in a preview with filenames. Comments from deleted users stay readable and are marked as such. The canvas view glides to comments when selected in the sidebar, and comment pins/cards stay in sync with drawing movements. Picking any tool now exits comment mode. @mentions are shown in blue both during typing and once sent.
